Scientists at the University of Leeds have developed a lithium jelly battery which will hopefully lead to smaller, cheaper and safer gadgets. The flexible polymer gel batteries can be shaped and bent to fit virtually any device, allowing for lighter laptop computers, and more efficient electric cars. The researchers at Leeds University are promising that their jelly batteries are as safe as polymer batteries, perform like liquid-filled batteries but are 10 to 20% the price of either.
The University has licensed the battery technology to Polystor Energy Corporation, which will hopefully get these new jelly polymer batteries to market quickly.
