IKEA have plugged in three Blink Pedestal electric vehicle charging stations at its San Diego store as part of its partnership with ECOtality, Inc. Installation is also planned at 6 other IKEA stores in the Western U.S. Jim Tilley, IKEA store manager said that “installing electric-vehicle charging stations at IKEA San Diego is another way to build upon our commitment to sustainability.” ECOtality is overseeing the installation of approximately 14,000 commercial and residential charging stations in 18 cities and major metropolitan areas in 6 states and the District of Columbia. IKEA stores are in 4 of those states.
To charge an EV at IKEA San Diego, drivers pull in to a designated parking spot, swipe their BlinkInCard, plug the charger in to the EV and then shop and eat at their leisure in the store whilst the vehicle is charging. “IKEA has shown true leadership by installing Blink charging stations at their locations, and making Blink chargers accessible to the public” says Andy Hoskins, San Diego Area Manager for ECOtality.
